EFAQ SHOW JUMPING CHAMPIONSHIPS IPSWICH 1ST - 2ND MARCH 2008
Thistle Hill Fleetwood Mac didnt have to travel to far to go B Grade! For 2 days of Show Jumping organised by EFAQ and Alison Ford it was a great weekend with a lot of people out for the first time since the E.I. outbreak. Robert Goodwin came down from Warwick with 6 horses on board for their first show. Robert rode Mac on Saturday in the 1.15m to have a double clear round in the AM7 course but with a time of 40.2 not quick enough to get better than 5th place. Later in the day he was in the 1.20m and Robert rode him beautifully to go clear in the AM5 and wait for the jump off. Clem Smith was riding Maxi Rullah and was looking for some money as he sped around the jump off proving he would be hard to beat. Mac and Robert had a very tidy round remembering there were still 2 more events the next day and Robert didnt push Mac too fast. Final results were 1st Clem Smith and Maxi Rullah 2nd Robert Goodwin and Thistle Hill Fleetwood 3rd Lachlan Manuel and Hector 4th Anthony Murray and Riverside Bart Sunday was not as busy and Mac started the day with the 1.10m class which showed off his Stockhorse breeding and Roberts quick thinking. Robert didn’t want to go too fast in the jump off as he knew he had the 1.30m later. Robert did the unthinkable and turned Mac on his haunches after the oxer and came inside an incredibly close fence with a tight turn straight onto a vertical and over to win by nearly 4 seconds to 2nd place getter Tim Bowman on Shireen with 3rd to Anthony Murray riding It’s Jealousy Robert also came 4th on Early Times. The 1.30m was a bit of an ask at the end of a long weekend of jumping but Mac didn’t disappoint, Robert said he rode really well around the big course with only 2 rails down.
